St. Ann Classical Academy began the holy season of Lent in the most beautiful way — together at Mass on Ash Wednesday.
Following Mass, our students reverently took part in our annual “Bury the Alleluia” ceremony. Throughout the school, joyful paper Alleluias had been lovingly prepared. Student delegates carried them forward in procession, symbolically laying them to rest throughout the Lenten season.
In Catholic Classical education, even this simple gesture is rich with meaning. During Lent, we quiet our voices from saying “Alleluia” so that our hearts may grow in virtue — practicing patience, self-denial, prayer, and charity.
Our students are reminded that Lent is not merely about giving things up — it is about preparing our hearts for the glorious return of Christ at Easter. As we journey through these forty days, we strive to cultivate virtue and joyful expectation, awaiting the triumphant song of Alleluia once more.
